The Karlštejn castle
This Gothic castle was found by the Czech king and Roman Caesar Karel IV in 1348. It was the place that housed royal treasure. Especially the collection of saintly relics and imperial crown jewels.
Koněprus cave
In the surrounding area of Beroun is the biggest cave system in Bohemia. Since 1959, it is open to the public, so everyone can see the beauty of stalactite caves. The guided tour takes 60 minutes. We recommend warm clothing because of the temperature -- around 11C. In the area is a car park, souvenir kiosk and lunch kiosk.
Křivoklát castle
This is one of the oldest and most amazing castles of Czech princes and kings. The castle was established in the 12th century. It was developed by Přemysl Otakar II and Václav II as a majestical, royal castle. Václav IV rebuilt it and Vladislav Jagellonský further built it out. Much damage was caused due to fire. It was then turned into a feared prison. In the 19 century the kastle was renovated by Furstenberg.
Saint Jan under the rock
It is one of the most visited places of Bohemian karst. Scenic village Saint Jan under the rock is surrounded by green fields and forests. A little road Leeds you along a creek and brings you to the front of the monastery and durch, established after the Benectine cluster was established, with the anchoret Ivan’s cave. The church was built in 1661; cloister buildings were finished in 1730. The cloister was abandoned in 1785.
Berounka
People call this river “old river” because of the calm stream. In the river surroundings are many historical landmarks, such as castles Křivoklát and Karlštejn and ruins Libštejn, Krašov, and Týřov. In the valley of the river are lush, historical parks, for example, Skryjská jezírka with its trilobite fossil discovery. Under Beroun, the river runs through a chalky canyon where lime-pits, adits, canyons and caves systems abound. Best known are the quarries Little and Big Amerika and Alkazar.
